Under a lot of financial burden, Olympique de Marseille president Vincent Labrune is trying to convince owner Margarita Louis-Dreyfus to inject more than just 20 million Euros to the club
One evening, following a controversial draw against Valenciennes in May 2010, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130 president Jean-Michel Aulas, was seen shouting at the top of his voice in the corridors of Nungesser. The reason was that the draw had left the club struggling
to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
Qualification for UCL means that the club would get 20 million Euros on average which is a pretty big amount for most of the clubs.
Now, it also falls on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127. Languishing in 9th place in Ligue 1, Marseille are most certainly going to miss out on UEFA Champions League next season which means that the club will have to look somewhere else to pocket 20 million
Euros.
“As much as I cannot score goals, I can anticipate the finances. Being considered the worst of all time, for many months, I have already found solutions. We’re lucky to have a strong shareholder,” said Labrune recently.
Dominique Grimault, former director of media and now the manager of OM TV, said that Margarita Louis-Dreyfus should inject 20 million Euros next season if the club is to avoid another financial scenario.
Angry after the club’s spineless performance against Bayern Munich, Vincent Labrune spent most of the day squabbling with the major shareholder of the club to try to convince her to inject 35 million Euros this summer rather than 20 million Euros as planned.
Certainly, Labrune knows that the club needs more than just 20 million Euros to avoid the current financial and sporting scenario. Furthermore, if Marseille are looking to keep Didier Deschamps at the Velodrome, they would need to make sure that they have
enough funds so that Deschamps can bring a few players he wants to.
Labrune is confident that he can take the club’s financial situation in his own hands if Margarita injects 35 million Euros. However, convincing Margarita would be a big task and might turn out to be an impossible one as the major shareholder hasn’t shown
much inclination to ease the club’s debt in recent months.
