The Olympique de Marseille president is very happy to see his side occupying a podium position but feels that there are a lot of teams that can make things difficult for the Rhone giants in the second half of the season
Third in the league table, level on points with Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique Lyonnais, things cannot be better for Ligue 1 outfit http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 who no one would have thought would be competing for the Championelle if their dismal performances
during last season are taken in to account.
However, the arrival of Elie Baup as the new coach has definitely done the trick for Les Phoceens who now have a great chance of returning to Champions League football as early as next season if they are able to maintain their consistency.
A top three finish was never really the club’s objective for the current campaign as president Vincent Labrune knew that the club will have a hard time competing with the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130.
While talking to Le Provence regarding the club’s current standing, the president says that he had targeted a fifth place finish for the side keeping in view the financial constraints that have been the reason why Les Phoceens were not very active in the
summer transfer window.
“We had a pretty fair analysis of objectives of the Championnat during the offseason. When targeting a fifth place in the Championnat, it is not because we are not ambitious, it is because we noted the finances in the hands of our rivals.”
Today, Les Phoceens are in the top three and know that they can end the season on the same position if they keep playing the way they have been over the past few months. However, with the rigours of the league, Labrune knows that having depth on the bench
could be the decisive factor by the end of the campaign.
Having a small workforce means that Marseille players will tire and burn out which is why no one was really worried when the club was eliminated in the group stages of the UEFA Europa League.
