Vincent Lecavalier to miss 3-4 weeks due to fracture
The Tampa Bay Lightning are off to a decent start in the 2010-11 National Hockey League season, but they were dealt a blow on Thursday 11 November when team captain Vincent Lecavalier
broke his right hand.
TSN.ca
reports that Lecavalier sustained the injury early in the first period during the Lightning’s game against the Washington Capitals. After the injury occurred, the centre immediately skated back to the bench, and eventually departed for the Lightning’s
dressing room. He would later return to the game.
Lecavalier would continue to play in the second period, but would later leave the game after playing nine shifts. Head coach Guy Boucher told the media afterwards that Lecavalier had kept
on playing until he was unable to grip his stick any longer.
The fracture was located in the upper portion of Lecavalier’s hand, and was near the knuckle of his right index finger. It is unknown whether or not surgery will be required to repair
the fracture. Lecavalier is scheduled to miss three to four weeks with the injury.
Earlier in the season, Lecavalier missed a game after complaining of soreness in the same hand. So far, he has scored three goals and six assists for a total of nine points in 14 games
this season.
The Lightning are coming off of a tough road loss to the Washington Capitals, who handed them a 6-3 defeat. They currently hold a record of 8-5-2, and they are in second place in the NHL’s
Southeast Division with 18 points.
Despite the recent loss to the Capitals, the Lightning have been progressing well this season, thanks to the stellar play of key players like centre Steven Stamkos, who currently leads
the team in scoring with 14 goals and 12 assists for 26 points.
Tampa Bay has a busy schedule ahead of them, with games against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday 12 November, and the Minnesota Wild on Sunday 14 November.
