Vincent Millot, Simon Greul move to the main draw of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell
Vincent Millot ousts Mischa Zverev
World number 150 Vincent Millot of France fought back after getting thrashed in the first set to upset German Mischa Zverev, ranked 105th in the world, 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 in the final qualifying match of Barcelona Open Banc
Sabadell at the Real Club de Tennis Barcelona on Sunday.
Millot did not have a good start to the match as he was broken in the third and fifth game of the opening set, losing it 2-6.
The French was unable to serve well as he delivered 56 percent of the first serves, winning just 43 percent of the points on them in the opening set. On the other hand, his opponent hit 57 percent of the first serves and converted
80 percent of them into points.
Millot fought back in the second set, breaking Zverev in the 12th game to win the set 7-5. The 25-year-old improved his serve as he hit 62 percent of the first serves, converting 61 percent of them into points.
In the deciding set, Millot dominated from the start as he broke Zverev in the first and third games to race to a 4-0 lead. Zverev reduced Millot’s lead as he won two consecutive games to take the score to 4-2. However, Millot
broke again in the seventh game and held his serve in the next game to seal the final set 6-2.
The Frenchman converted all the three break points he received in the third set. The left-handed managed to save five of the six break points he faced in the deciding set.
Millot is slated to play Croatian Ivan Dodig, ranked 56th in the world, in the opening round of the main draw.
Simon Greul defeats Jan Hajek
In another final round match of the qualifying draw, Simon Greul of Germany battled past Jan Hajek of Czech Republic in three sets 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 to qualify for the main draw.
Hajek broke Greul twice in the opening set, winning it 6-2. The Czech fired a single ace and 65 percent of the first serves in the opening set. Hajek won 73 percent of the points on his first serve.
In the second set, Greul needed a single break of serve to win the set 6-4. The German delivered 82 percent of the firsts serves, converting 59 percent of them into points in the second set.
Greul was almost flawless in the third set, dropping just a single game and winning the set 6-1. The German did not face a single break point in the final set. The match lasted for one hour and 42 minutes.
The 30-year-old will meet Robert Kendrick of USA in the first round of the main draw.
