Vincent Millot defeats Jan Hernych 6-4, 7-5
Local challenger, Vincent Millot gave a straight set shocker to the Czech, Jan Hernych, in the second qualifying round of the Moselle Open 2012, held at the indoor hard courts of France. The Frenchman summed up his 6-4, 7-5 win in one hour and 25 minutes on Sunday.
The world number 162, Hernych, was unable to uphold his initial serve in the opener but bestowed the opportunity upon Millot to secure the lead by 2-love. The French challenger successfully journeyed to the top but Hernych broke his rival’s serve in the sixth game to square out the score line to 3-all. However, the Czech veteran provided a tough challenge to Millot but he nudged forward to mark a 6-4 set win.
The following set proved a dangerous encounter between the two contestants, as they keenly eyed upon victory. Hernych confidently broke his opponent’s serve and held the initial three games bringing the scores to 3-all. Like before, the right-hander French broke his rival’s serve in the later part of the set and evened out the scores to 5-all. He advanced without facing any intricacy and after a rough battle, concluded the match with a 7-5 win.
 Daniel Brands beats Pierre-Hugues Herbert 7-5(5), 7-5
World number 108, Daniel Brands after a tough combat defeated Pierre-Hugues Herbert in the second round of the Moselle Open. The German competitor summed up his 7-6(5), 7-5 win in almost one hour and 48 minutes.
The 21-year-old Frenchman confidently commenced the match and faced a tough challenge at the hands of the Brands. Due to this, the score line squared three times, as both players continuously oscillated the momentum in the contest. Surprisingly, both players carried on their journey to the top without facing any serve break. The right-hander German nudged forward and closed the set 7-6(5), after a close tiebreaker round.
The second set continued in the exact similar manner but Brands seized his initial serve to stamp his dominance this time around. The scores evened out four times and after a stiff battle, the German challenger came forward as a surprising winner with at 7-5.
The 250th ranked French challenger fired eight aces, maintaining 55 percent initial serve accuracy. He also bagged away 39 of 53 first and 25 of 43 second delivery points in the match. Brands managed to smash six aces and had lower initial serve precision. On the other hand, he capitalized 28 of 33 first and 26 of 38 second delivery points.
