Vincent Millot bounces back against Michael Shabaz in 1st round - Charlottesville Challenger 2011
French Vincent Millot jumped back from a set down against Michael Shabaz in the main draw of the Charlottesville Challenger 2011.
After just one hour and twenty three minutes on indoor hard courts of the Boar’s Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Virginia, Millot recoiled from a set down to score 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 on Monday the 31st of October 2011.
Initiating the primary round was Shabaz and he got lucky as he reeled straight three games over his adversary by capitalizing on a breakpoint in the second game to place himself on the scoreboard with a mini lead of 3-0.
Millot made a return in the fourth game and the two once more held their service games to rotate the scoreboard at 4-1 with Shabaz leading the set.
During the sixth game Millot held his serve and tried to reduce the deficit to 2-4 but was still a break and hold of serve down. Nevertheless during the last two games, Shabaz first held his serve in the seventh game and then in
the eighth, he benefitted from a breakpoint to clog the opening set.
After taking a beating in the first, Millot pulled up his socks in the second set. Initiating the set was Millot and this time he squandered two successive games by capitalizing on a break. However, Shabaz broke back and eventually
tied the score at 2-2 by the end of the fourth game with a hold of serve and a break.
Subsequently, in the following four games the players matched a blow for a blow and the score progressed on even terms at 3-3 and then 4-4 by the end of the eighth game. During the last two games the Frenchman capitalized on a
second breakpoint and finally served for the set.
At the end of the first two sets each player had bagged a set and kicking off the decisive set was once again Shabaz and this time he was able to win a game on his service game. Right behind him was Millot, who too clogged his
first game and spun the scoreboard at 1-1.
However, from there onwards Millot not only held his serve but also bagged all of Shabaz’s serves as well and the following four games were taken by the Frenchman to move the score to 5-1.
Millot was not only leading in the set but he was now looking to break Shabaz to serve out the match. As Shabaz’s forehand shot went wayward, Millot sealed his victory of the set and the match.
By clogging a straight sets victory, Millot reserved a spot in the second round of the event.
