Vincent Millot ousts Simone Bolelli at second round of Monte Carlo qualifying singles
French tennis player Vincent Millot scored an easy victory over Simone Bolelli of Italy, ousting his opponent in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 to proceed to the second round of the qualifying singles at the 2011 Monte Carlo Masters. Millot won the match just minutes ago, taking under an hour and ten minutes to end Bolelli’s hopes of making it to the main draw.
The match was a very easy one for Millot, who has not played against Bolelli prior to this. The player scored two aces in comparison with one by Bolelli, while both pros committed two double faults. However, he managed to take the lead by fighting off four of five break points and successfully converting six of a total of eight break points against his Italian opponent. Vincent Millot also won 60 per cent of his points in the first serve, while Bolelli could only manage 52 per cent. The Italian also committed an unexpectedly high number of unforced errors, and single-handedly assisted Millot to win the match so easily. The player, who is currently ranked World Number 115, concluded the match in just over an hour to keep his chances of a main draw showing alive with a bagel in the second set of the 6-2, 6-1 match.
Bolelli is ranked World Number 114 at the time, and is more than forty spots higher than Millot. This, coupled with his superb 6-3, 6-3 first round victory over top seed Mikhail Kukushkin, had spectators convinced that he would be able to make short work of Millot to proceed to the next round. The player is 25 years old, and has been part of the pro tour since 2003, although he has not won a career title yet. Both players are the same page, although they have not been particularly successful so far. This is the second match that Vincent Millot has won so far this year, while Bolelli has only scored one win so far.
Vincent Millot will now take place in the first round of the main draw of the tournament.
