Vincent Millot stuns Igor Sijsling in the first round – Moselle Open 2012
Ranked 82nd in the ATP World Tour Rankings, Igor Sijsling, received a straight sets shocker at the hands of the Frenchman, Vincent Millot, in the first round of the Moselle Open 2012 held
at the hard courts of France. The Frenchman marked his 6-4, 6-4 win in a total of one hour and 22 minutes.
The 26-year-old French underdog held his first serve in the opener but was unable to win the game. This gave his rival an opportunity to draw the first blood, marking the score line with a 2-1 score. However,
the Dutch proved to be powerless as the game progressed and Millot broke his serve fifth game to mark a 3-2 lead. Immediately, Sijsling came back to break his opponent’s serve and brought up the scores to 3-all. After a tough battle, the French candidate emerged
to the front with a 6-4 score.
The 6ft 3in, Sijsling, fired three aces and upheld a relatively higher initial serve accuracy of 71 percent, capitalizing 18 of 27 first serve points. His French challenger displayed a lower initial serve precision
of 51, snatching away 14 of 20 first and 10 of 19 second delivery points. Millot also pocketed away two of three serve breaks bestowed on to him, whereas Sijsling just secured one.
The 25-year-old, Dutch lost all his confidence and began the second set in a sloppy manner. The French professional broke his rival’s opening serve and clinched 2-love lead. He progressed in the set without facing
any break, and came forward as the deserving victor, closing the match with a 6-4 win.
The world number 222, Millot, had a below average initial serve presentation of 41 percent, converting 11 of 14 first serve points. Fortunately, he capitalized the single break point provided to him, turning
the tables on to his advantage. On the other hand, the Dutch right-hander had 78 percent first serve precision, bagging away 15 of 21 first and three of six delivery points.
For the next match the left-hander Frenchman will compete adjacent to the winner of the match between Ivan Dodig and Andreas Seppi.
