Vincenzo Montella expects a long-term deal as AS Roma manager – Serie A news
AS Roma’s caretaker manager, Vincenzo Montella, has stated that he has proved himself in the past few months and shown that he can manage the team on a long-term basis. He claimed that he is not worried about his future and expects to be handed the full-time
job soon.
The Italian was appointed as the Giallorossi coach in February this year after a series of disappointing results under then manager, Claudio Ranieri. The team saw a mini-revival under him in Serie A and was close to a UEFA Champions League qualifying berth.
But the club’s loss to Catania last week saw them settling for a UEFA Europa League spot at the end of the season.
Montella’s future at the club is uncertain at the moment with the club willing to spend heavily in the summer after the club was sold to Thomas DiBenedetto, an American businessman. But the former Roma striker is confident that he will remain the manager
next season and will be offered a new contract.
He said that the there were reports in the media last week that he will most certainly be the manager of the club next season and now the same people are uncertain of the situation, which is surprising.
“It was a little strange to hear my career prospects through the media. A week ago I was 90 per cent sure of staying according to the newspapers, now it’s 10 per cent,” the Italian was quoted as saying in an interview.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926 International claimed that the picture would get clearer in the next few days regarding whether he is staying or not, as the directors are assessing the situation.
“I think during this period I have been evaluated by the directors who are at the training ground every day and it was gratifying to prove I can already do this http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684. It’s already a very satisfying experience and we’ll see over the next few days what happens,”
he concluded.
AS http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 finished the season in sixth place with 63 points and have qualified for next year’s UEFA Europa League.
