The Catania manager states that he has special ties with the Giallorossi and Rome, but insists that he has not been approached by the club.
Vincenzo Montella has revealed that he has a weakness for AS http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 arising due to his time at the club, first as a player and then as a caretaker coach, and insists that he will seriously consider an offer from the capital club.
The Giallorossi are on the lookout for a new manager, after Luis Enrique chose to walk away from the club. The Maggica have made no secret of their interest in Montella, and have hinted that the Elefanti manager could be approached
with an offer.
The former AS Roma striker stated that his recent days have been overshadowed by the dismal performances of Catania, and insisted that due to the situation, he thought it inappropriate to comment on his link with the Maggica.
The Rossazzurri manager expressed his gratitude for the words of interest from Walter Sabatini, but insisted that he has a great sense of responsibility towards the Elephant’s President, and the fans.
While talking to Sky Sport Italia, the 37-year-old said:
“It has been a very intense week in which I was talked about, to my chagrin, which is why I chose not to speak in a press conference yesterday. I am flattered by director Walter Sabatini’s words, but I owe a great deal to Catania.”
The former Italian striker played for AS Roma for more than a decade, and also served as a caretaker manager for the Giallorossi in 2011.
Montella admitted that he has a weakness for the Giallorossi, as he not only served as a player and a coach at the capital outfit, but also has special affiliation with the city of Rome.
However, the tactician stated that he does not want to build castles in the air, and insisted that he will talk to the President, if he is approached with a concrete interest.
The Catania chief insisted that he has a contract with the Elefanti, and stressed that he will respect it.
“They know I have a weakness for Roma, having a past there as a player, a Coach and other ties to that city. In any case, it’s all hypothetical. First let’s see if this interest is real, then in that case I will speak to the President
and make a decision together. ”
Montella's season with Catania has seen the team finish 11th in the league standings.
