The former Catania manager has revealed his aim to attain a ‘proper’ league position with his new club, and believes that the Viola has confidence in him.
Vincenzo Montella has voiced his enthusiasm at being appointed the manager of Fiorentina, and has revealed that the club had to move mountains to bring him to Florence.
The former Catania manager was heavily linked with a move to AS http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603, but the negotiations broke down after the Elefanti President refused to release the tactician from his contract with the club.
However, the Viola never gave up and were able to sign the former Giallorossi tactician to replace the sacked Delio Rossi.
Montella was all praise for Fiorentina’s unyielding desire to get him to move to Florence, and stated that the aspiration of the Gigliati exhibits the faith that the club has in him. The former Catania manager thanked the Viola
for the honour, and vowed to give his best for the struggling outfit.
The former Giallorossi tactician revealed that he is already acquainted with the environment around Empoli as he grew up in the city.
While talking to the press, the 7-year-old said:
“I’m here with great enthusiasm. I want to start a new era in a club who have great faith in me and who did a lot to get me here. I thank everyone. I grew up near here, in Empoli, so I think that I already know what to expect from
this environment.”
Fiorentina had a dismal run in the 2011-12 campaign, and spent the last part of the season struggling with relegation.
Montella pointed out to an underlying desire residing in the club to do better, and revealed that he aims at restoring the Viola back to its former glory.
The Gigliati tactician admitted that there are pros and cons of taking the challenging position at Fiorentina, but maintained that he is up to the task.
The former Catania manager insisted that he likes his squad to be ready and complete before the start of the pre-season training, but admitted that it is a very unlikely possibility considering the tough conditions of the transfer
market.
