Vincenzo Nibali beings training for the new season
Vincenzo Nibali begins his 2012 training with the new side, Team Astana as he was seen riding in the new sky blue Team Astana jersey in the training camp in Sardinia.
The full Astana squad trained for two weeks in Arzachena, northern Sardegna, and the area is normally surrounded with tourists in summer but is abandoned in December, which makes it an ideal training spot.
The team used all the deserted roads to have the necessary kilometres for the new season as the team gets ready to take on the 2013 challenge.
Vincenzo Nibali is eyeing podium at the Tour de France 2013 and stated that he is ready to take on Bradley Wiggins or whoever comes in between him and the top Tour podium spot.
The cyclist was brilliant at this year’s Tour and was the only real challenge for the fierce Team Sky lead by Bradley Wiggins and Christopher Froome.
The British duo received full support from the strong Team Sky and claimed the first and the second overall spots after the final general classifications and Nibali had to settle for the third overall spot.
However, the Spaniard stated that he has learnt his lessons and is all set to take on Bradley if he attempts to ride the Tour in 2013.
“I've always liked stage races and I think the Tour de France was a great race this year. I hope to improve on my third place overall in the future. I tried to beat Wiggins but it was virtually impossible. But that didn’t stop me trying,” He briefed to Cyclingnews
earlier.
“It was hard for me this year because the time trials really suited Wiggins and he was able to gain a lot of time on me. I tried to attack him a few times but it wasn't easy to pull back all the time,” he concluded.
The final Team Astana line-up for the new season include ten Italian riders after Alessandro Vanotti and Valerio Agnoli after the duo left Team Liquigas-Cannondale to assist Nibali for the new season.
Only time will tell, if Vincenzo manages to find his winning momentum going at this year’s Tour de France to better his this year’s result at the most prestigious cycling race of the year.
