Vincenzo Nibali wins the penultimate stage at the Giro di Padania 2012
Vincenzo Nibali of Team Liquigas-Cannondale is having an outstanding season with numerous victories in his bag in the earlier part of the season.
The Italian is making full use of his peak form which was evident during his performance at the ongoing Giro Di Padania.
He is leading the stage 4 overall classifications, the points classification and the mountains classifications at the race including a stage 4 victory at the event.
The cyclist managed to secure a podium spot at the Tour de France after a continuing battle during the three-week race.
He was the only rider that challenged the British riders, Bradley Wiggins and Christopher Froome at the event.
Vincenzo secured and overall victory at the Tirreno-Adriatico, second overall at the Tour of Oman , Liege Bastogne-Liege and third at the Milan-San Remo 2012.
He currently holds the fourth overall position after the UCI Elite Men Individual rankings with as many as 400 UCI points in his back pocket.
Bradley Wiggins is leading the category with 601 UCI points while Joaquim Rodriguez Oliver and Tom Boonen claimed the second and the third positions with 414 and 410 points respectively.
Vincenzo completed the 186 kilometres, fourth stage of the race in a total time of 4 hours, 31 minutes and 39 seconds and occupies the top podium position.
Davide Rebellin of Team Meridiana Kamen also rode brilliantly and was looking good to secure his second victory of the season but could not match the likes of his Italian competitor.
He finished 4 seconds short of Nibali and had to settle for the second spot with Kristijan Durasek of Team Adria Mobil, Domenico Pozzovivo of Team Colnago-CSF Inox and Franco Pellizotti of Team Androni Giocattoli-Venezuela at the third, the fourth and the fifth spots respectively.
Maurizio Biondo of Team Meridiana Kamen wins the first sprint of the race while Sergio Lagana of Team Utensilnord Named and Vincenzo Nibali of Team Liquigas-Cannondale succeeding at the first and the second mountains of the event.
Carlos Alberto Betancur Gomez, Enrico Battaglin, Jan Hirt, Fabio Felline and Luca Wackermann were the top young fiver cyclists on the day.
Nibali is well placed at the first spot after the stage 4 classifications and with a lead of 40 seconds over Riccardo Chiarini and Domenico Pozzovivo.
