Vincenzo Rossitto nails Levan Jomardashvili to win WBC International cruiserweight title
Vincenzo Rossitto, the current owner of the Italy cruiserweight title, collected an impressive unanimous decision win over the Georgian proud Levan Jomardashvili and grabbed the vacant WBC International cruiserweight title, in a 12-round bout held on April,
13, 2012.
The ring for the bout was stretched at Palasport Concetto Lo Bello situated in Syracuse, Sicilia, Italy and the event was promoted by Luca Ferrara of Round Zero. The above duo headlined the event whereas the night was co-headlined by the six-round non-title
clash between Giovanni De Carolis and Jozsef Molnar.
Rossitto, the Italian proud, was entering in his career’s 51st bout and overshadowed his opponent in almost all the facets of the game. The orthodox Rossitto, boasted 41 wins and 25 of them via knockout.
He has collected just seven losses and since his last unanimous decision defeat against Silvio Branco, the 36-year-old was on a two-bout win streak in fact he grabbed his country’s apex divisional gold in his last engagement with Maurizio Lovaglio.
Vincenzo collected the win emphatically via fifth round technical knockout decision and this was enough to boost his motivation in order to nail an easy opponent like Levan. Rossitto possessed the experience, knockout, height and above all the huge hometown
advantage.
Levan, on the other hand, 23, was entering in his 33rd bout. The young lad has faced misfortune in all of his title bouts. The Georgian proud has been in a total five title-bouts (including the recent one) and unfortunately has been unable to win any of
them.
The orthodox pugilist has collected 26 wins and 19 of them via knockout. With all the deficiencies on his side and with the so-called ‘title curse’, it would have been a miracle if he came out of the ring victorious.
The odds were clearly in Rossitto’s favour and he started the things off impressively battering Levan with full force. Levan did try his level best to land some good jabs but was able to do so in the latter rounds by using his agility and footwork.
Rossitto overcame the lag and in the last two or three rounds, generated raw-powered right-left combinations rattling the young lads senses altogether. It was just a matter of time that Levan would have flattened on the ring floor but his resilience came
in to aid him and he was able to bear the 12-round punishment till the very last second.
With this win Rossitto has collected 42 wins and is now the WBC International cruiserweight champion in addition to the Italy cruiserweight. Levan, on the other hand, has collected his career’s seventh loss and yet again has lost another title bout.
