Question:

Vinegar and Dark Colored Levi Jeans!?

I need help. I heard from a lot of people that white vinegar works to preserve the color of new dark colored jeans. But what EXACTLY am I supposed to do? I dont want to waste 60 bucks for nothing. I need specifics. For example, do I use softener?

And I know that I should turn them inside out and wash with cold water. And air dry them with no sunlight or UV Rays. Yeah, I did my homework. But what else should I do? I heard you should soak them in vinegar with water, mostly water though. And then wash them in the washer with the gentle cycle... But is that RIGHT? Or will I F*** Up my jeans?

Also, people say that 'vinegar' is to set in the dye so it doesnt get on other clothes. That's just what I want to do. And I dont want to try that salt method, so dont recommend it.

  1. Woolite keeps the color.

  2. soak those jeans in a bucket of vinegar and water overnight. The acidity of the vinegar helps to set the dye. Wash and hang dry afterwards and you’ll notice less bleeding the next time you wear them. I tried this in January with my ink blue denim clamdiggers from Zara and it has definitely helped. The dye has set a little more, and my hands aren’t blue

  3. The method you described is what I know of, and my mother used it on a shirt ages ago (to set the dye, as you said). It certainly won't harm the jeans, but I'm not sure if I'm convinced it truly preserves the color or not. I suggest using woolite instead.

  4. vinegar works great on all darks....just add the vinegar with your soap....use your judgment depending on the amount -- meaning, if you have more than your jeans. you can't use too much vinegar -- it's not like bleach. i'd use anywhere from 1/4 C - 1/2 C....but don't worry, you won't ruin your clothes.
