Question:

Vinegar versus fabric softener?

Is it better to use vinegar versus fabric softener for the environment? My repair man said that vinegar works just as well and doesn't harm the environment like the fabric softener.

So my second question is, Is fabric softener bad for the environment? If so are there better brands or products to use?

  1. Yes, fabric softener is TOXIC. It's scary that it's sold, considering what is in most of it. (Unless you buy all natural.)

I am going to link to several articles that go over what is in fabric softeners today and the effects it can have on us.

Vinegar works REALLY well as a fabric softener, doesn't seem to take static out of clothing if you have to use a dryer, though (if you hang-dry there's no static anyway). 1/4 cup in the rinse cycle (I use a downy ball because I am lazy) is awesome and there is no smell when the wash is done. :)
