Question:

Vines in trees in Florida... what were they ?

When I was a kid we moved to St Petersburg, Florida and as kids we played in the undisturbed "woods" near our house. There were BIG trees (hardwoods if I remember correctly) and vines in these trees that in summer would produce and drop what looked like "potatoes". We used those "potatoes" to throw up and knock others down and jerked on the vines to dislodge more and then we played "war/hand grenades" with that "armory" of "tree potatoes". Question what were these vines that produced "potatoes" ?
