Vinnie Calabrese and Zhang Anda trash Lee Page and Jamie O'Neill: World Snooker Q School 2011
Australia’s Vinnie Calabrese and Zhang Anda of China have made their way to the second round of the World Snooker Qualifying School (Q School). They defeated Lee page and Jamie O’Neill in the first
round of the Q School Event 2 on Tuesday, May 24 at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield.
Calabrese and Anda will next meet Fraser Patrick and Ian Glover respectively in the second round on Thursday, May 26 at the same arena. Since the current event is the last chance for both Calabrese
and Anda, they will have to put more effort to book main tour spots in the 2011-12 season.
Vinnie Calabrese 4-2 Lee Page
Calabrese struggled in the first two events of the Q School as he could only reach as far as the second round of the first event while he made it to the third round in the second event, eventually
losing out to Li Yan, 4-0.
However, he started his third event with a 42-point break in the first frame of his first-round match. He gained a 1-0 lead after he won the first frame 67-18 followed by the second frame victory
at 76-60 to move within a two-frame lead, 2-0.
Page bounced back and swept the table brilliantly in the next two frames with a couple of cracking knocks of 40 and 42 to pull level at 2-2, as he took the frames 33-75 and 55-67. After that, Lee
lost his track as the Australian potter, Calabrese, clinched the game with back-to-back frame victories. The overall score line of the match was 67-18 (Calabrese 42), 74-60, 33-75 (Page 40), 55-67 (Page 42), 55-33, 74-0.
Zhang Anda 4-2 Jamie O'Neill
The Chinese went on a tremendous run in the Q School Event 1 as he made it to the quarter-final stage, where he failed to achieve his goal and lost to David Grace by 1-4, while he crashed out from
Event 2 in the very first round at the hands of Pakistani cueman, Shahram Changezi.
However, he has taken a step ahead in the third event as he nudged the Englishman, Jamie O’Neill, two frames down, 4-2 in his first match-up. The 19-year-old Anda will next meet Ian Glover in the
second round on Thursday, May 26 at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield.
