Vinny Maddalone-Chris Koval to meet in a non-title 10-round bout next month – Boxing news
Vinny Maddalone, the former contender for the IBF International and WBO NABO heavyweight title, will take on fellow countryman Chris Koval, the former contender for World Boxing Federation Intercontinental heavyweight gold, in a non-title 10-round bout which
will take place on May 2, 2012.
The ring for the bout will be stretched at Russo’s On The Bay situated in Howard Beach, New York, United States and the event is being promoted by Joe DeGuardia of Star Boxing. This will be the third event organised and put forth by Joe, who recently made
the announcement regarding the pay-per-view in a press conference.
The above duo will headline the event whereas the Wednesday night showdown will be co-headlined by the eight-round non-title bout between Mike Arnaoutis and Broderick Antoine.
Vinny, 38, has been in a total 42 bouts and heavily overshadows his opponent in experience and various other aspects. The orthodox pugilist has collected 34 wins and nailed 25 of his opponents by knockout.
Maddalone recently made a comeback after his loss against Tomasz Adamek, a bout in which he had the golden chance to grasp two titles. Vinny was obliterated by Adamek and lost the bout in just the fifth round via knockout.
Vinny went out of the ring for almost 10 months and returned in October to take on Mike Sheppard. His comeback was impressive since Vinny collected a first round technical knockout win over decently experience Mike.
His opponent, Chris, 29, has been in a total 33 bouts and possesses a lower win ratio as compared to Vinny. He has nailed just 25 opponents and collected 10 of those wins by knockout.
As far as the reach and height advantage is concerned both are equal. Vinny outclasses Chris the ‘Special K’ in experience, knockout ability, win ratio, and calibre of opponents fought.
During the press conference, DeGuardia, promoter and organiser of the event ‘VIP Boxing III’ shared his sheer excitement and said, “We’re very excited to bring a terrific night of professional boxing once again to the beautiful Russo’s On The Bay venue.
This is our third VIP BOXING event and just like the last two it will be a wonderful evening of food and cocktails along with action packed fights.”
The fight card of the pay-per-view might witness some amendments and more bouts are expected to be added. The odds of winning are in favour of Vinny, who has a substantial upper hand over Chris, unfortunately famous for having a curse of losing all the title
bouts in his career.
