Vinny Maddalone collects impressive knockout win over Chris Koval – Boxing News
Vinny Maddalone, the former number one contender for the WBO NABO heavyweight title, made a huge comeback in his hometown and collected an impressive fourth-round technical knockout win over fellow countryman Chris Koval, in a 12-round bout held on May 2,
2012.
The ring for the bout was stretched at Russo’s on the bay, Howard Beach, Queens, New York, United States and the event was promoted by Joe DeGuardia of Star Boxing. The above duo headlined the Wednesday night show whereas the non-title eight-round bout between
Mike Arnaoutis and Broderick Antoine co-headlined the pay-per-view.
Vinny, 38, had the odds in his favour from the very first round and he did put forth his fans an impressive rather explosive performance by optimally capitalising the advantages in his gear.
Maddalone was entering in his career’s 43rd bout and boasted 34 wins. He has lost seven bouts and has collected 25 of his wins by knocking the opponent out cold. The veteran American proud was returning to the ring after the time lapse of six months.
Vinny is a quality pugilist who has collided with names such as Tomasz Adamek, Jean-Marc Mormeck and others. The veteran was on a two-bout win streak after his last loss to Adamek, a bout in which he lost the chance to grab the IBF international and WBO
NABO heavyweight titles.
His opponent, Chris, despite having a handsome experience was nowhere to be found in front of Vinny. Koval, 29, was entering in his career’s 34th bout and boasted 25 wins. He has collected 18 of his wins by knockout and has lost a huge nine bouts.
In addition, Chris, also known as ‘The Special K’, is going through a very tough and dismal phase of his career. Koval was coming from a split decision loss to rookie Mujaheed Moore. Furthermore he was coming with a resume heavily tarnished by recent losses.
Unfortunately, Chris collected four losses in his last five bouts and just one win. With such reputation and pugilism against a man who has a pretty impressive resume, the result was obvious. The bout kicked off and Vinny did not give even a split chance
pounding Chris heavily and countering his each and every jab efficiently.
During the fourth round, both men leashed their full might on each other and exchanged a series of powerful fists while standing in the centre of the ring. But Vinny’s jabs were more powerful and as a result, Chris eventually lost his senses and after receiving
a huge right hand, got flattened on the ring floor.
The referee took a glance and later on called off the bout in favour of Vinny. With this win Vinny has not only returned to the boxing scenario but has also collected his career’s 26th knockout and 35th win. Chris, on the other hand, has collected his career’s
ninth loss and needs to revamp his strategies.
