Vinny Scolpino, Frank Espinoza happy about Abner Mares-Joseph Agbeko rematch – Boxing
Vinny Scolpino, Joseph Agbeko’s manager, and Frank Espinoza, Abner Mares’ manager, have expressed their happiness on the upcoming rematch between their fighters for the 118-pound International Boxing Federation bantamweight championship belt.
This bout will take place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California on December 3, 2011 and will be shown live on Showtime.
Vinny Scolpino reckons it is a great opportunity for his fighter to avenge his defeat against Mares. Scolpino believes Agbeko, who has held the title twice, will once again win the title.
“I think Joseph goes back in there and beats Mares. He knows what he did wrong the first time and I think he'll take the title home,” Scolpino told ESPN.com.
“I'm happy that Joseph gets another opportunity to get his belt back. That's the bottom line, whatever happened in the first fight,” Scolpino added.
Meanwhile Mares’ promoter Frank Espinoza is also happy for the rematch, as he thinks his fighter has finally received a chance to clear any doubts.
“Abner is looking forward to clearing up any doubt that took place in the first fight,” Frank Espinoza said. “It's the right call for Abner and the right call for Agbeko. It's the right thing. Golden Boy and Team Mares just want to clear up any doubts in
the rematch.”
Agbeko ‘King Kong’ Joseph and the undefeated Mexican pugilist, Abner Mares, ended up in a storm of controversy when they met last on August 13, 2011 for their bantamweight title.
Mares’ landed numerous low blows during the fight, and was warned five times by the referee Russell Mora, but was never docked a point. Moreover, everybody was left flabbergasted when Mares landed an obvious low blow in the 11th round
forcing Agbeko to his knees, apparently in pain, and Mora counted is as a knockdown.
After all that has happened so far, it is fair to say the Mares-Agbeko rematch will certainly be an explosive bout. Let’s see who emerges as the winner of this one.
