Vinod Kambli recalls his Test career
Former Indian batsman, Vinod Kambli, has shown surprise over the mystery of keeping him away from Test matches during his career, saying that he hit consecutive double hundreds with an average of almost 55 in 17 games in the five-day format.
"Despite scoring back-to-back double hundreds I was told that I was not good enough for Test cricket and was only a good one-day player. I couldn't understand the reason behind it. I was a bit taken aback", Kambli said.
Throwing light on his cricket career he said that though he had featured in 17 Tests with an average of 54.20 and he wanted to play more Tests matches, he was sidelined without providing any reason.
The 39 year old all-rounder had scored 1084 runs in the Test matches including four centuries and three fifties. The ex-player had also participated in 104 One Day Internationals (ODIs) scoring 2477 with an average of 32.59 including two centuries and 14
half centuries.
Left-handed Kambli also revealed that he was much more interested in playing first-class cricket for Mumbai but was disappointed when was not picked for the team this year.
"I have announced retirement from international cricket but not Ranji Trophy or the first class cricket. I was really looking forward to play for Mumbai this year”, the player said.
Kambli said that he was extremely discontented for not given a chance even he had played for Mumbai for the last 18 years. “I have never left http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 and have always been a 'khadoos' cricketer. I was looking forward to the Ranji season this year but I was
not selected," said Kambli.
The former all-rounder said that he will never quit and will continue playing and will surely get back into the Mumbai side in the next season.
During his career he was taken for a flamboyant and non-serious player. He said that many of the people have misunderstood him as he never meant to harm anybody. Kambli said that he might have hurt people but had not done it deliberately.
"The game has given me everything - from where I was to where I am today. I played my cricket with a lot of passion. Off the field, there have been some incidents that I don't want to talk about. I have always played cricket with my full heart and soul.
Cricket has always been my first love and it will remain so", he added.
