My father in law has 1958 ford 841 tractor. It will only start when towed in gear. We have replaced the plugs, plug wires,cap,rotor,batter(6v) and coil. It turns over great but will not fire. We have tested 6v on in and out of the coil. There is a very weak spark from the coil wire when we extract if from the distributor cap to let it arc to ground. There is practically no spark from the plugs or arcing a plug wire. Where do we look now?

  1. the battery or the starter one is not getting power or bad.. so know if the battery is good you check the alternator to see if its charging . can you jump start it if not then my guess is the starter or a wire to it

  2. HI

Is it getting fuel?? Try putting a little gas down the carb see if that helps

    good luck

  3. run a hot wire from + batt to+ coil and giver another try not sure of your ign sys on that beast but have seen some problems with the 2 wire solenoids on some of the old fords better to just hot your coil from ign switch anyway instead of that stupid 2nd wire on the sol, ford did some screwie things back then, Oh wait they still do!
