Question:

Vintage French blue/white enamel house numbers?

It's my wife's birthday soon. I want to get her an old French enamel house number that is her date of birth - five digits. There is someone on eBay who has thousands of old ones - but she has told me that genuine French ones hardly ever go beyond three digits. Is she right? If not, then where should I look? If I can't find a French one then are there any countries other than US that might have such high numbers in enamel on steel? Help! I have a little under three weeks (21 Feb).

  1. You can order a custom-made one there: http://www.house-signs-co.com/en/index.p...

but they say the manufacturing time is 2 weeks so with international delivery it might be tight. You can always e-mail them and ask or look for something similar made in the US.

They don't do 5-digit though (we don't have streets that long!) so you should stick to the month and day and do a 3-digit one. Or order a street sign instead with her name.

PS: it's a sweet and fun gift idea, by the way!

  2. yes she's right, it's very seldom to have big house numbers in french streets.

Try in the Netherlands maybe ?

  3. you can find it in Canada and if you want it in french look at ebay from Quebec,Montreal

  4. You can go to the website mentioned below.

They won't have that number it in stock, so you'll have to make a special order. Specify that you want a French-looking font.

  5. Try getting two or three sets of two:

02   05   08 (using today's date)  Then have them put together on a plaque or in a custom made iron fram, or something like that.
