Question:

Vintage Marquee/Poster style wedding invitations

I love these wedding invites, unfortunately letterpress is WAY out of my budget, and even if I could work the price in, the turnaround time is for too long.

Does anyone know where I can find pre-printed invitation sets or photoshop brushes/clipart that I could design something like it on my own?

I've been looking everywhere but I can't seem to find anything.

Does anyone know what this "style" is called?

Thanks!

  1. Don't do it yourself with clip art.  If you're going to do it yourself you'd better have some history and experience with design and Photoshop/Illustrator, and the whole printing process.

Go to or call the graphic design dept at the local college.  Ask for a referral for one of their best students, or a former student.  You can probably get something custom designed for a cheap price, and get it printed locally, at the UPS store or something, or find a type of paper you like (glossy, matte, cardstock, 80lb, 50lb, 32lb, etc) and ask the student to take care of that for you.  Just make sure you see a PRINTED sample (not digital) first.

As I said, you'll get a good price out of the deal, and the student will get some work for their portfolio, to help them start their career.  Good deal!

  2. Those are some very interesting invites.

Actually i have no idea why someone would use them...

    but its your wedding.

i would go to your local wedding or print shop, show them pictures and see what they can do for you.

usually if can get them to knock some of the price off.

  3. Those are all very beautiful and if you are graphically inclined, none of them look too difficult to do on Photoshop.

I get the best brushes from:

    http://www.brusheezy.com

it's a great site for photoshop brushes and I get a lot of my flourish style brushes from there.

    also check out:

    http://www.dafont.com

another great free download site for those very cool fonts.

  4. It's not a photo shop brush or style, its the design you are looking for....which is a flourish.

First you need to start sourcing clip art of flourishes...I have seen these online. Just search "fluorish borders and clip art" some should pop up. You can purchase the rights to the hi-res editable files for just a few dollars.

For teh fonts, i would go to dafont.com and look under their styles for something similar, they have tons of font styles similar to this.

    Good luck!

  5. I suggest you go to your local HobbyLobby or similar store and find some scrapbook paper you like that reflects this style. Get a plain coordinating color to print the wording on. Get a pair of designer edged scizzors to cut. Glue the plain on top of the designed.

You could also get a hole puncher to add a ribbon to the top if you wanted more flare.

You will have to do the work. Enlist some girlfriends to help you cut and paste them together. You can get 2 5x7 invites from one 8.5x11 sheet of paper.

These store also sell envelopes. You will be able to get exactly what you want for a low price--and I bet everyone will be in awe of how beautiful they will turn out.

Also check jampaper.com for inexpensive envelopes.
