Question:

Vintage glasses?

If I have a pair of vintage glasses can the old lenses be replaced with lenses of my prescription?

I recently inherited a very cool pair of cats eye glasses that belonged to my grandmother, I would love to reuse the frames.

Is this a lost cause?

  1. There should be no problem with them replacing the lenses at all. On top of that, ask if they can tighten the screws and fix any broken or loose parts and clean them at the jewelers in the ultrasonic before you take them.

Send me a picture of you in them...I'll bet they're gonna be great on you!!!

  2. If it's a metal frame , it shouldn't be a problem. If it is plastic, it may be hard. Some old plastic frames become brittle and you can risk breaking the frame. Many older cat eye metals had aluminum tops with some nice detail, some had small stones. Take them into a regular optical shop, rather than a chain optical. You will want someone experienced dealing with this irreplaceable frame.

  3. You can definitely have the lenses replaced with your prescription and you can have them adjusted if need be.I think that's great that you want to reuse them because glasses can be very expensive, and if you've got a vintage pair that can still be used,I say got for it!!!

  4. You should be able to, I use the same frames several prescriptions in a row to save money.

  5. Absolutely not a lost cause!  Go get em done!  That way, maybe you can see me waving at you!!!
