Question:

Vintage jewellery in Toronto/the GTA ?

I'm looking for recommendations for stores in the Toronto area (general or downtown, or otherwise in Mississauga, Lakeshore or Etobicoke) that carry or specialize in vintage, vintage replica or costume jewelry. ***Nothing GENERIC***, ie, nothing you would find in a Peoples or a Costo jewelery case. Could be jewlery stores, or even cases in a clothing boutique, whatever... any ideas?

Additional info: I'm planning on buying a ring or some other piece of jewelery for my sister as a university graduation gift.

She is a designer so I really want to avoid anything generic and want to move towards something dramatic, art deco or even something sweet (like a gentle pearl string bracelet.. as long as it is not forgettable). I don't want to go to an "expensive" store but I'm willing to spend up to a few hundred for a unique quality piece because it's something I want her to have forever.

  1. I would go to Kensington Market to look for something vintage.  It's fantastic - it is full of little vintage shops and independent designers.  It is located just west of downtown Toronto, in the Spadina-Dundas-Bathurst-College area.

  2. there are people around who will do custom jewlery that would be one way of getting something unique. it can even be cheeper then buying from places like Poeples. but if u want somthing antique or vintage then maybe take a look in some antique shops. there are some in the city and lots in the GTA and outside of Toronto as well.
