  1. i would really go to your local pool store we go out and measure for our customers because all inground pools are all custom really and need the a-b measurements to properly custom fit to each pool. it has to fit exact there can't be any measurement off. if you want it done right check out your local pool store. our pool store will not install anything that we did not buy ourselves so if you are looking for a pool store to install it you are probably out of luck its better you go through them. hope that helps!

  2. How about from someone that used to install them?

For starters, this is an inground. Unless that pool was built EXACTLY to spec and you still have the original drawings for the kit, it's going to have to be measured. Liner measurement isn't easy. It's not just a question of having a perimeter, depth and shape. There are a number of slopes to measure as well as   estimating the amount of stretch you want.

You're better off getting the liner manufacturer you decide on, to send you their measurement sheets ( each company is different in how they want measurements done) and actually hire a Pro to come in to do your figures. Once the measurement sheets are filled out properly, you can then send them into the liner company you chose. I dunno if that will save you any considerable sum but at least the pool measurements will be done correctly and the liner you get will fit properly. Doing it yourself isn't really an option unless you want to roll the dice. Most liner manufacturers will NOT take back a liner simply because the measurements are done incorrectly. Heck, most won't take it back if the box has been opened.

One last bit of advice. Ask if the vinyl is offshore. If it is, it isn't a bargain.

Edit: Offshore vinyl is c**p made in Asia. It's usually not consistent in colour nor in thickness. The patterns inked on aren't usually as colourfast either. They tend to wash out easily. It's cheaper, but you get what you pay for.
