Violence and My Happy Face not up for their next intended starts
Trainer Todd Pletcher has a very good 2-year-old colt in Violence, who would in all likeliness will miss his next intended start. Black Rock Stables’ Violence is a perfect 2 for 2, and was likely to return to run in the Remsen Stakes, but the plan has changed after the Nashua Stakes.
The Kentucky bred son of Medaglia d’Oro quickly became a graded stakes winner after breaking his maiden at first asking, when he was put up against maidens to run over a distance of seven furlongs at Saratoga’s dirt course on 18 August, 2012.
Violence under jockey John Velazquez saved ground and bolted in the stretch to take the seven furlong sprint in 1 minute and 22.91 seconds, casting Titletown Five in second and Orb in third.
Staying in New York, it was Aqueduct race track for the Grade 2 Nashua Stakes over a distance of a mile on 4 November, 2012, and after surviving an inquiry, Violence was settled the winner in 1 minute and 35.32 seconds with Vegas No Show and Really Sharp finishing second and third, respectively.
“I would be a little concerned about the 20-day turnaround, so we’ll see how he comes out of it,” Pletcher said. “Our plan coming into [the Nashua] was that this would be his last run of the year and then we’ll go to Florida.”
On the other hand, Rudy Rodriguez trained, My Happy Face, is also unlikely to run in her next intended start, which would have been the Demoiselle Stakes on 24 November, 2012, mainly because of her bitterly fought stretch duel against Cue the Moon to take the Grade 3 Tempted Stakes at Aqueduct race track on 4 November.
The 2-year-old Tiz Wonderful filly is a tough one to beat, and her stretch duel with Cue the Moon was reminiscent to the one against Dreaming of Julia, where she lost by a narrow margin to finish second in the Grade 1 Frizette Stakes.
“She’s very aggressive, very game, and she takes care of herself,” said trainer Rudy Rodriguez. “We’re just going to enjoy this one, and hopefully she’ll keep improving. We’ll talk to [owner] Michael Dubb and see what he wants to do, but she’s a game filly.”
