What are tonic arpeggios?

  1. "Tonic" refers to the first note of a scale, so for example in C Major, C is the tonic;  in D Major, D is the tonic, etc.

    An arpeggio built on the tonic is the first, third and fifth note of the scale.

    C major triad:  C-E-G
