Violin or cello: which is considered harder to play?

I play one of these and am real curious how it is generally thought to compare with the other. Assuming equal motivation and energy to apply oneself by a beginner, which of these instruments in your opinion or by general consensus is considered more difficult?

  1. I think they're difficulty is desame since cello's shape is more like violin's too but more bigger and they all have strategies. Violin is hard to play since you can't see which hand did you put in the string and also cello is hard to play since it has to put it on the floor and probably you can't reach it or not comfortable. And also it depends on the player if he is a fast learner or if he is comfortable on the instrument.

  2. violin duh

  3. Between the both violin is harder because you cannot see your fingers ( if you have your head in the right position) however i find it more fun. I find cello an annoyance since its not easy to travel and you have to put something on the floor so it doesnt slide over

  4. I have played both instruments. I started out with the cello and didn't like it that much so I switched to the violin. I thought the violin was much easier to learn than the cello.

  5. From what I've heard, the violin is the harder instrument to play.

Personally, the cello is my favorite stringed instrument (unless you count piano, which is my instrument).

  6. Violin is the hardest instrument that you can play, I know because I can play it.

  7. The violin is harder to learn, but it's pretty much the fundamentals of strings.. Once you learn it, the rest come easy.

  8. Cellophane is definitely more difficult to play.  Now, tissue paper on a comb, that's pretty easy.

  9. I would think that the cello would be easier simply because you can prop it on the floor. The way that the violinist has to hold it under the chin seems highly difficult and tiring to me.

  10. I play the violin but I think that the cello would be harder to play. It's a lot bigger and more movements are needed to play notes.

  11. I play cello and have played violin. I think they are both hard in different ways. Like the left hand position for violin is very awkward, and it's hard to get a good sound out of the deeper cello strings and also a cello can be hard to manage.
