Virago or rebel?

Question

hey guys,

i have narrowed my bike search to a rebel or a virago.which one would be the better bike?is there a difference in power?please hold the laughs,this will be my first bike so i dont want to spend 1o grand and lay it over in the first week.

also,i live in san diego.i know the bike will do well in the city but i plan to go see yosemite shortly.how does this bike hold up on longer trips?

I think the Virago 250 is cute. No good for long distance but fun around town. Why not look for a Yamaha Star 650 or the Honda 600 or 750 shadow (shaft).

honda is way over hyped.... either will be fine, but i'd say the yami out of spite for the honda... too many sheep think honda must be better because of a namesake.  honda is just another brand

besides which, the rebel is a 1982 design

Owned a Virago 250 and ridden both. Both likely reliable. Personally, the seat/peg/handlebar relationship on the rebel was just too tight for me. Virago had more room. V-twin sounders cooler, too, of course! The Virago would hit 70 MPH but best cruising in the mid 50's.

I've owned 2 hondas (one a nighthawk) and 3 yammys, my current scoot is a '95 1100 virago, which i love.  Hondas a good brand too, you don't indicate what size of each, so i can't comment much more than that.   For longer trips, i'd prefer the cruiser style of the virago, depends on if you've got a younger butt that will hold up under the stress!  Think i'd decide based on engine size and which one is newer.

assuming you are talking about the 250cc rebel. it is a really reliable bike. i would chose the rebel over the virago for reliability. but i would chose the Suzuki gz250 over both of your choices. older models called the gn250.

The Yamaha is the better of the two but have you looked at the Kymco Venox and Hyosung GV250 both are every bit as good and cost less , they have a warranty. These are good companies not Chinese junk rides.
