  1. well, VIRUSES are OBLIGATE PARASITES!

    they only replicate (Inside) of a living HOST!

    or in a proper laboratory setting <-------(but you probably don't need to mention this)

    They use the hosts machinery (and sometimes host enzymes to)!

    As far as producing infection where there was none before ( the virus must somehow meet up with the particular cell type or types that it is able to infect.) A virus with a small host range can only infect a few or less cell types; A virus with a Large host range can infect Many cell types

    -then enter the cell-at which point it's life cycle of replication will begin again...
