Virdhawal Khade dominates Men’s 50m freestyle final – 2011 Singapore National Championships
Virdhawal Khade of India dominated the final of the Men’s 50m freestyle on the last day of the 2011 Singapore National Championships.
The championship is a six-day international swimming meet, where swimmers demonstrated their breath-taking efforts to secure podium finishes in their respective events.
The 19-year-old Khade pocketed the title of the event in a meet record time of 23.21 seconds. His tremendous timing was comfortably under the previous meet mark of 23.57 seconds, set by Russell Ong in 2011.
Khade’s gold winning effort was almost a second away from the FINA A-Time Selection Standard of 22.35 seconds. His time was 0.31 seconds away from the World Selection B-Time qualification standard of 22.90 seconds.
The Indian champion swimmer was 0.24 seconds ahead of his following competitor, Xin h*i Arren Quek of Aquatic performance Swim Club, who touched the finishing wall for silver medal, by posting a remarkable time of 23.45 seconds. The third spot on the podium
was obtained by Russell Ong of Swimfast Aquatic Club, who stayed only 0.19 seconds behind Quek and touched the finishing wall in a superb time of 23.64 seconds.
Ong was only 0.13 seconds faster than his following swimmers, Ben Proud and Kai Quan Danny Yeo, who ended their swim with a tie for fourth fastest spot. Ong’s team-member, Proud and Yeo of Aquatic Performance Swim Club presented a wonderful swim in front
of the packed arena and touched the finishing wall in a same time of 23.77 seconds for the fourth position.
Jerome Teo of Swimfast Aquatic Club stayed only 0.02 seconds behind the duo of fourth finishers and touched the wall for sixth best spot of the race, by clocking a time of 23.79 seconds. Eugene Tan of Swimfast and Aaron Yeo of Elite Swim Club concluded their
swims in the seventh and eighth fastest spots, by posting a time of 24.31 and 24.44 seconds, respectively.
Khade was very happy with his title winning effort and expressed his desire of continuing putting up a better show at the upcoming swimming events.
