Delhi Dare Devils are back on the winning track as they thrashed Kochi Tuskers Kerala on Saturday, April 30th, at the Nehru Stadium, Kochi.
Delhi skipper Virender Sehwag led from the front as he clobbered 80 runs from 47 balls and won the ‘Man of the Match’ award for his brilliant performance.
Dare Devils won the game by 38 runs and because of this win, they have jumped three places in the table and are now placed at seventh position. Tuskers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kerala-c803, on the other hand, have slipped down to ninth position just above the Pune Warriors.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 was playing away from home and after winning the toss, Sehwag decided to bat first. Delhi piled a 157-run target. KTK managed to score only 119 in their attempt to chase the target.
Both teams made few changes in their lineups. The visitors suffered a blow when James Hopes could not make it for the match so Roelof van der Merwe came in as his replacement.
The hosts, on the other hand, included three new faces, Australia's http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ramesh-Powar-c2278.
Sehwag and Australian cricketer, David Warner, opened the Dare Devils’ batting while http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RP-Singh-c2368 and Sreesanth shared the new ball.
The host hit the first blow to the Dare Devils when Sreesanth got Warner’s wicket with just 4 runs conceded. It seemed as if Dare Devils would be dismissed cheaply as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Naman-Ojha-c2057 got out in the same over.
Following the early two dismissals, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Venugopal-Rao-c2752 and Sehwag amassed 31 runs for the third wicket, though the partnership was totally dominated by Viru, the major contributor with 30 runs.
Rao fell to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ravindra-c84236 Jadeja scoring just a single run bringing the Delhi to 35 runs for the loss of three wickets.
Viru then found a reliable partner in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yogesh-Nagar-c98297. Along with his skipper, Nagar added 56 vital runs for the fourth wicket. Near the end of the 15th over, Nagar showed signs of tiredness and got run out while going for a risky second run.
Viru continued to bat belligerently. The explosive batsman bashed http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Balachandra-Akhil-c1123 for 18 runs in the 16th over and eventually gave up in 18th over. Vinay Kumar was delighted to claim his wicket. It was due to his commendable innings that Dare
Devils reached 151 for the loss of seven wickets.
Kochi experimented with their lineup as they opened their innings with a different combination. Klinger and Brendon McCullum started the proceedings.
Irfan Pathan and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Morne-Morkel-c77722 made full use of the new ball for the Dare Devils. Both pacers were hard to play during the power-play. Other than hampering the flow of runs, they also shared three wickets in the first six overs.
Umesh Yadav fully supported the strike bowlers. Kochi never got going as they lost wickets at regular intervals.
The tactics of demoting Mahela Jayawardene down the order failed as the skipper only managed to add 18 runs from 28 deliveries to his tally.
At the half way mark, the hosts had lost four wickets with 51 runs on the board.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Irfan-Pathan-c1601 dropped his catch in the 11th over. However, he failed to pounce on the chance, getting dismissed after adding only 10 runs in the 14th over. With his demise, Kochi’s hopes were shattered.
Then forth, the incoming batsmen did not show much resistance. Van der Merwe finished the match in style by taking three wickets in the 19th over as Kochi was dismissed for 119.
