http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Virender-Sehwag-c95429 looks to regain fitness for tour of England: Cricket News
Indian batting ace Virender Sehwag is hopeful of taking part in the Test and One Day International (ODI) tour of England set to start in July this year.
The right-handed opening batsman has been one of the mainstays of the batting line-up for India in recent years. However, he has missed out on some top flight cricket due to a persistent shoulder injury that has even ruled him out of the latter part of the
on-going Indian Premier League, where he was representing the Delhi Daredevils.
Sehwag, who was in blistering form after a slow start shortly before his injury, is in England where he will be operated upon.
Sehwag spoke to media in England and apprised of his condition after the operation.
"I think I will able to play the series in England," Sehwag told Mid-Day. "That's the reason why I stopped playing the Indian Premier League for Delhi Daredevils and rushed to London to get my shoulder operated."
The dashing big hitter of the ball, who has scored both the triple centuries in Test cricket, suffered the injury for the first time in 2009. The nature of the injury was a slap lesion or labrums (shoulder blade) tear.
Despite his injury he took part in the World Cup win for India last month, he blazed away to the best score of the tournament in the very first match against Bangladesh and scored some quick fire runs in the matches against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 and the semi-final
against Pakistan at Mohali.
In the on-going IPL, he played 11 games captaining http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 Daredevils in their rather indifferent campaign at the start of the season. However, he was forced to withdraw from the cash rich league in order to undergo shoulder surgery in England after he sustained
a recurrence of the injury soon after he had blazed a mesmerising century in the tournament.
The 32-year-old underwent an operation by Dr Andrew Wallace, The London-based surgeon.
Wallace had previously worked on the batting maestro and Sehwag’s ODI opening partner Sachin Tendulkar, who had suffered a tennis elbow caused a long layoff for the champion batsman.
The Daredevils is confident of regaining his fitness for the grueling tour of England. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 would be fighting for the top spot in ICC’s rankings in the longest format of the game. Currently, they have the top slot in the rankings and are closely followed
by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749 who had an outstanding run in Test cricket last year, which was capped off with the memorable win in the Ashes series in Australia at the start of the year.
"I will return to London after six weeks for a check-up," Sehwag said. "I should be fit in six to eight weeks. Going by the rehabilitation programme designed for me I should be okay. I am already feeling the difference each day."
Sehwag would be pivotal to India’s chances in the series. The English conditions can be a challenge for his style of play especially if the ball swings the same way it did in the last season, which made life extremely tough for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746
last year.
On the other hand the English bowlers would have a lot to fear if the conditions suit the batsmen. India has the best batting line-up in the world with the likes of Sehwag, Tendulkar, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rahul-c83321 Dravid and Venkat Laxman set to test the bowlers to the fullest
in batting conditions.
