Delhi Daredevils skipper, Virender Sehwag plundered his maiden Twenty20 century against the Deccan Chargers yesterday, on May 5, 2011.
Delhi’s Indian Premier League match against the Deccan Chargers, was played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hyderabad-c792.
A relieved Sehwag, described his match-winning 119-run knock as one of his “best innings” in Twenty20 Cricket.
Sehwag revealed that although the first six overs of the game did not go in their favour, his strategy to target the fourth and fifth bowlers worked out perfectly.
"I never got a 100 in T20s. First six overs did not go our way. We were 29 for three in six overs. Since they didn't have a fifth bowler, I thought if I can target their fourth and fifth bowler, we would be able to achieve this target,” he explained.
He captained the Delhi side to a four wicket victory with 6 balls to spare as the Daredevils surpassed the intimidating target of 176, set by Deccan. Delhi had amassed a total of 179 by the end, at a run-rate of 9.42.
"The moment I got 23 runs in Ishan Malhotra's over, the momentum shifted in our favour. I knew if I could bat 15 or 16 overs, the target should be achievable," stated the hard-hitting batsman.
The 32-year-old captain reckons that since his men have nothing to lose, they will play without any pressure in the remaining fixtures of the season.
The players can be fearless and experiment with their cricket as nobody expects the team to make it to the Semi-finals.
The Daredevils are stranded at the 7th position of the IPL points table with 8 points, losing 6 out of their 10 matches. They need to win all 5 remaining games of the IPL in order to qualify for the play-offs.
