Virender Sehwag ruled out of ODIs due to injury
The flamboyant Indian batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Virender-Sehwag-c95429 has been ruled out of the ODI series against South Africa due to a shoulder injury. He will, however, be a part of the final Test match which will be played from the 2nd of January in Cape Town.
The injury to Sehwag will be a shock for the Indian team and the fans alike. The ODI series would have been a good chance for Sehwag to get some match practice right before the 2011 World Cup.
Sehwag will be replaced by Rohit Sharma and the Test match opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Murali-Vijay-c78035 will also stay with the team for the ODIs.
Sehwag will play the all important final Test match, which will also be the decider for the series. The Test series is nicely poised at this stage with both the teams levelled at one all.
South Africa won the first match convincingly; defeating India by an innings, however, the World number one team bounced back strongly and won the second match to even the series.
South Africa seemed confident to win the second match and wrap up the series but their poor form at Durban continued to haunt them. Before the match against India, South Africa had lost two matches against England and Australia at the same venue. They lost
to England by an innings and to Australia by a huge margin of 257 runs.
India has had a poor run in South Africa in the past and they were looking to improve on their previous record. This was also an opportunity for them to capitalize on the good run of form that they have enjoyed over the last few months.
India has never won a Test series in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 and after winning the second Test at Durban, they will be eying their first series win in the country.
Moreover, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 and England as well after the World Cup and it will be a challenge for the Indian team to retain their top spot in the ICC Test rankings.
