Destructive Indian opening batsman Virender Sehwag has been ruled out of the One Day series against South Africa due to a shoulder injury, a BCCI spokesperson said on Thursday.
"Virender Sehwag has been advised to withdraw from the ODI series against South Africa to tend to his shoulder. Rohit Sharma will replace him in the squad," BCCI secretary N Srinivasan said in a statement.
However, he will be part of the series-decider third Test match starting on 2 January 2011. The match is due to be played in Cape Town and India will be hoping for a strong performance by their batsman.
Rohit Sharma will join the squad in place of Sehwag while http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Murali-Vijay-c78035 has been asked to stay on in the camp.
The Test series is levelled at 1-1 after two matches. South Africa won the first Test match at Centurion and India earned a hard-fought victory in the second Test at Durban.
The second Test was evenly poised as on the fourth day either of the teams could have won. South Africa was looking to wrap up the series with the win however, India bounced back and levelled the series with a memorable victory. Durban remains a jinxed place
for South Africa as home team have lost by a heavy margin against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 and England in the past.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757. In all their previous tours, they have failed to win any Test series. However, after the Durban Test, they will be hoping for their first-ever Test series win in South Africa.
India will be heavily relying on Virender Sehwag to provide a solid start up-front so that their experienced middle order can capitalise on it.
Earlier in 2010, Virender Sehwag was forced to skip the Twenty20 World Cup due to shoulder problems and this step seems a precautionary step ahead of the ICC World Cup 2011.
