Virender Sehwag, in the first two encounters of the npower Test series against England.
Back in 2001, the swashbuckling opener from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780, Sehwag, emerged as a valuable asset for the Men in Blue as he recorded his Test-debut against a formidable South-African side.
Till date, the 32-year-old has featured in 87 Tests and 236 One-Day Internationals for the national side. With 22 Test-hundreds and 14 ODI centuries, the right-hander has all the credentials for turning out to be a legendary batsman.
Captain M.S Dhoni said, “We, as a side, rely on our openers quite a bit. A good start helps our middle-order capitalize on it. There aren’t many cricketers in the world who impact a game like Sehwag does. We will miss him.”
With his audacious and inventive stroke play, Sehwag soon developed the image of an annihilator for his opponents. Although critics do question his batting technique but his impeccable ball-eye coordination led him to enjoy a strike-rate of over 100 in his
One-Day International career.
However, even before the commencement of India’s tour to England, the World Champions received a major setback in the form of Sehwag’s absence from the first two Tests against the Poms, as the 32-year-old is still recuperating after his shoulder surgery.
Sehwag’s absence has provided the 21-year-old, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abhinav-Mukund-c41758, a golden opportunity to display his skills while leading the Indian batting line-up from the top.
Despite averaging only 24.50, with only one half century in the Test format, the youngster displayed a decent batting temperament in the Caribbean, as a debutant, which is the prime necessity of Test cricket.
Dhoni also mentioned that England’s bowling attack is potent enough to challenge any batting line-up and facing them on their home turf won’t be an easy task.
“http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 is a very good side, they regularly get plenty of runs. They take 20 wickets. We have to be at our very best,” said Dhoni.
After serving the Lankan http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lions-c808 a Test series defeat at their home soil, the English now have their sights upon achieving the number one rank in Test-cricket.
India’s tour to England is scheduled to commence from July 21, 2011 and will comprise of four Tests, one T20I and five One-Day Internationals.
