Virgil Hunter shrugs off rumours of contract with Amir Khan – Boxing News
Although Amir Khan and Virgil Hunter have been talking for each other in their recent media appearance, the latter has shrugged off rumours of his official binding with Khan. According to Andre Ward’s trainer Hunter, he surely has been in touch with Khan,
but they have not struck an official deal yet.
“Nothing is really official (between me and Khan). Nothing has come from Khan or his people or anything like that. So, until then, they are rumours,” said Hunter in an interview with Chris Robinson of Examiner.com
“I can’t speak on it because I’m not in a position to speak on it right now. There have been conversations. But there hasn’t been an [official] statement, and I think that’s true. But I have spoken with them, of course.”
According to Hunter, Khan is a talented fighter. He added that there are several reasons of the Briton’s downfall and he needs to work on them in order to move ahead.
“Khan, without a doubt, is extremely talented. Of course, in my personal opinion, there are reasons why he has been in some of the predicaments that he’s been in but those predicaments are easily recognized and they are easily eliminated out of his repertoire.”
According to Hunter, the drawbacks Khan has are quite easy to overcome. He condemned the idea of putting down the Briton after his recent defeat against Danny Garcia. Virgil believes that Khan is an outstanding fighter and he has proven it with time. However,
his recent performances have been under par.
Khan went head to head with Danny Garcia on July 14 at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. The Briton had promised fans that he would knockout the unbeaten fighter by the third round. However, what happened was completely the opposite. It was
Khan who was knocked out by Garcia in the third round by a huge left hook.
Later on, Khan lost the fight in the fourth round via knockout. It was a career devastating defeat for Khan and a career making victory for Garcia.
Now, Khan is hoping to make a strong comeback and so he is weighing his options to the fullest.
