Virgil Hunter to Revamp Khan’s Career – Nigh Impossible? – Boxing Special

Following his devastating knockout defeat at the hands of American unbeaten fighter Danny Garcia, Briton fighter Amir Khan decided to once again change his trainers in order to get the better of himself. Considering Khan’s previous attempt to do so, one
can only think how long will this work out for him.
Khan suffered his first knockout defeat at the hands of Breidis Prescott back in 2008. It was a first round knockout against a fighter who was hardly known. A huge hook and Khan went down to the mat. He tried making it back to the fight but he could not.
Embarrassed and humiliated by the comments that were being thrown at him by fans and analysts, the Bolton proud decided to bring Hall of Famer Freddie Roach to his arsenal. Surely, that was a great decision at Khan’s end, which kept him undefeated for three
consecutive years.
Nevertheless, eventually it had to come to Khan’s endurance, skills and his physical potential. If he cannot take a punch, no trainer can help him out there. Probably, this has been the problem with Khan all along. After losing to Prescott, he never faced
a fight who could punch him hard in the face. Instead, he chose to fight against the ones who either were at their retiring age or did not have enough punching power to knockout opponents. For instance, Lamont Peterson was Khan’s choice last year. Even the
Brit lost the match, he did not get knocked out, which saved his skin.
Khan became a bit too confident over himself when he chose to fight Garcia, who is a known puncher. Little did the Briton know that Garcia could be the end of his career. Khan was knocked out in the fourth round, after suffering a huge left hook in the third
round that completely dismantled him. Khan could not get back to his game and he was being thrashed by Garcia like a bag of potatoes. Eventually, the referee decided to call it off, with Khan screaming ‘I am okay’.
The defeat was shocking for Khan and his fans, as he lost his WBA title to Garcia. While Garcia went onto become a unified champion, Khan went on explaining his actions once again to his fans.
To be continued...
