Virgil Hunter to Revamp Khan’s Career – Nigh Impossible? (Part 2) – Boxing Special
Khan blamed his coach Freddie Roach for the defeat, asserting that Roach is unable to give him enough time to polish his skills. According to Brit, Roach’s main priority has always been Filipino fighter Manny Pacquiao. He added that the only way reason why
he was not up to the mark against Garcia was he was undertrained.
It was quite a shock for everyone to know that Khan is blaming a trainer who once saved his career. If Roach was not in the boat after Prescott’s knockout, Khan would have never been able to spend three years unbeaten.
Now, the former unified IBF and WBA light welterweight titlist is hoping Virgil Hunter, Andre Ward’s trainer, to save his career.
Hunter received ‘Trainer of the Year’ award last year, 2011, and is known for his achievements as a trainer, among which Andre Ward is his all time best creation.
Khan is hopes Hunter will fix his flaws and once again make him stand tall among others. The Briton fired Roach last month and announced his partnership with Hunter.
“Everyone in boxing knows about his skills and the success he has enjoyed over the last few years. I’m looking forward to the start of my training camp and working on some new things with him,” said Khan while announced Hunter as his new trainer.
On the other hand, Hunter revealed that he will be taking Khan from ground zero and will make sure Khan improves his game.
“There are certain small aspects of his game that I’m intending to work on in order to help him fulfill his enormous potential,” said Hunter.
Khan then announced his next opponent Carlos Molina, an unbeaten fighter who is not as good a puncher as Garcia. As Hunter said in his previous interview, Khan needs to stay away from punchers for a while if he wants to add some wins to his portfolio.
It seems like Khan has already started listening to Hunter, as Molina is definitely not a major threat like Garcia.
“I always want to face hungry young fighters and in Molina I’m up against a guy who has ambitions of world title success,” Khan added.
The question here is that even though Hunter is a great trainer, will he be able to add some defending skills in Khan or will he be able to improve Khan’s chin? If not then probably Khan will be knocked out again when he faces another fierce fighter like
Garcia.
