  1. I went there a couple of years ago.

St. Croix is friendly, laid back, and slow moving. It has a lot of American amenities like fast food joints, and generally reminded me of a very small old town.

St. Thomas is a cruise ship center, so there's alot of sales traffic. It's a more european feel, and there's a commiserate gap in social levels. Remember to pack Dramamine for the taxi trips; it'll blow your mind how fast they go.

St. John is a wildlife preserve with a small amount of civilization, but a huge amount of eco-tourism. Splendid beaches, great hiking/camping.

Travel around the islands is easy enough, and the taxi system is well-developed. Cruzan rum is a big export, and it's reeeaaallly cheap here, for good parent-time. If you have passports, the British Virgin Islands are only a 30 minute trip from St. Thomas.

I haven't been to the Bahamas, unfortunately, so I can't tell you about that, but I had a great time (except for that one night, all full of whiskey instead of rum). Either way...be sure to enjoy!

  2. We have been to both. I can give you some ideas and you can look at vacation packages at www.farecatchtravel.com

  3. Well, I have been to both. The virgin Islands, i agree with the other person, had a more european feel. When I was in the bahamas it was more americanized. There are a million things to do in both places. If you happen to go to St. Thomas, there is a wonderful, beautiful spot called Maegan's Bay that you should check out. Both have lots of fu nstuff to do though!
