  1. I'm on 10 Mb and I've just done a test 9321 Kb/s D/L and 483 Kb/s U/L. You ain't going to get it much better than that. Think yourself lucky your not on ADSL, it would be half that or less.

  2. I have 9879 today down and 484 up with Virgin L

That is close enough to 10M.

    Try www.speedtest.net

check with more than one server.

Turn off any IM, Skype or other service that is using your internet connection when you test.

  3. the speed they quote you is without a firewall, antivirus or router running so if you have any of these named items to get a true speed you need to turn them off temporarily

  4. That's a good speed. It's not the fastest that is available but it's not far off the top speed of 10mb/s that is available on the L package. And it should seem faster as the speed has been increased from 2mb/s over the last few months

  5. With fibre optic its a sales ploy.  ADSL can only receive 8Mb/s download speeds.  ADSL2 however can receive 24Mb/s download speeds and is around the same price as ADSL.  I get 18Mb/s down and 1Mb/s up and pay £18 per month.  I live in the UK and have a standard phone line.  There is a way to increase your speed by quite a bit on standard phone lines.  I did it and went from 10Mb/s to 18Mb/s download speed.  The only problem is its legality is questionable.  It certainly works.  I cannot post it here.  If you want the info email me through my email address in my profile.
