Question:

Virgin Media and Sky Broadband Question?

Im not an expert at this broadband thing but when I had Virgin Media I used to have 2MB download speed. But when I changed to Sky, I now have 8MB download speed. But the thing is when I had Virgin Media, people on Xbox Live will say I had a really good connection when I hosted. Now when I host with Sky, people complain about how bad it is.

Why is this? Is it because Virgin Media uses Fibre-optic cables (so they say) and Sky doesn't?

  1. Yes, fibre-optic cables transfer data using light and light travels much much faster than electricity itself (which is what sky use). So I suggest you get back with virgin media and if you want get a faster connection.

    Hope this helps.

  2. Just because you subscribe to 8MB it unfortunately doesn't necessarily mean you get it! It can depend how far from local exchange you are.

Try  http://www.broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk/ and run a test to see what you are really getting!

I use Virgin and think they are great.
