Virgin Racing Team driver Jerome d’Ambrosio hopes to improve qualifying performance – Formula 1 news
Virgin Racing Team driver Jerome d’Ambrosio has said that he is hoping to improve his qualifying performance soon as he has been unable to match the pace of his teammate Timo Glock so far in the 2011 Formula 1 season.
“Clearly I still need to improve my Saturdays. His experience is the most prominent on stop and go tracks like Valencia, or Canada where there is little grip and braking is therefore difficult. I still have more to understand to get the last tenths in those
conditions. But I'm not ashamed to say he was simply stronger. What I'm thrilled about is that on race pace, I was consistently with his times,” d’Ambrosio told the media.
Virgin Racing Team has been unable to top its performance in 2011 as they are pretty much at the same place they were back in 2010. Team Lotus are still the best of the three new teams of the sport while Virgin are pretty much in the middle as they are better
than Hispania Racing Team but not as good as Lotus.
Jerome has been able to score some good results for the team despite the fact that his car is not up to the mark. However, his weakness has been his qualifying performances in which his teammate has been performing much better.
Glock scored better results than d’Ambrosio on 6 out of 8 occasions. The young Belgian has a better race pace though as both of the teammates are scoring similar results throughout the season up until now.
The gap between the two drivers’ lap times is quite marginal. However Jerome’s lap times are around 5 tenths of a second slower than Timo’s during the qualifying session. This is quite disappointing since both of the drivers are using the same piece of machinery.
Nevertheless, d’Ambrosio agreed that he is still learning a lot about Formula 1 and he is lucky to have a driver like Timo Glock alongside him since he is quite experienced and skilled.
