Virgin Racing Team driver Jerome d’Ambrosio not setting targets in his debut season – Formula 1 news
Jerome d’Ambrosio was talking to the media at the launch ceremony of Virgin’s MVR-02 and said that he is not setting himself any targets for the 2011 Formula 1 season.
He said, “I won't have the arrogance to say that I will bring back the grand prix by myself.”
Jerome said that he will try to learn more from experienced Timo Glock rather than setting targets for himself.
He said in his last interview that the Belgian crowd erupted when the news of his seat in Virgin was confirmed. He also said that the expectation will be high especially in Spa-Francorchamps, his home ground, but he will try his best not to disappoint his
fans.
Jerome’s presence in Formula 1 will also ensure more spectator support in Spa-Francorchamps which seemed like fading for many years. Surely, he will bring more Belgians to the arena.
He will be Belgium’s only driver after 17 years to compete in Formula 1, the last being Phillipe Adams in 1994 for Lotus.
He said, “I didn't realize that it was 17 years (without a Belgian driver) but the next day after the announcement (of the race drive) was incredible.”
Virgin Launched their MVR-02 in BBC Television Centre in London recently. Apart from lower nose than rest of the new cars, the Virgin’s technical director Nick Wirth said he had some surprise package for the teams but it will be revealed after four races
in the championship.
“The next time you will really notice anything on our car will be Turkey as I am sure us, along with anybody else, will be holding back a major update until then for logistical reasons really,” Nick added.
In 2010, Virgin VR-01 faced many technical problems and finished at the bottom of the list and did not finish twelve races which was a concern for Virgin team but now it seems that it has been taken care of.
Jerome was Virgin’s reserve driver in 2010 but this season he replaces Lucas de Grassi.
