Virgin Racing Team driver Timo Glock believes the team still need to make improvements in their new car
Virgin Racing Team’s driver Timo Glock recently stated that the team still need to make improvements in their car, especially the car’s downforce. Virgin Racing Team has not been able to give a good performance in any of the three  pre-season test sessions
carried out and it seems that they are not as confident as their rivals Lotus Racing Team and HRT (Hispania Racing Team) for the 2011 Formula 1 season.
The FIA introduced 3 new teams on the Formula 1 grid in 2010 namely HRT, Virgin Racing Team and Lotus Racing Team but sadly, neither of them was able to secure a single point. However, Team Lotus believes that they are definitely going to step it up this
season despite the problems they are currently facing.
Nevertheless, it seems that Virgin Racing Team on the other hand is struggling to achieve its goals during the pre-season test sessions. During the pre-season test sessions, the teams usually aim of scoring and acquiring some vital data which helps them
in setting up their respective cars in various situations ahead of the season.
Other than that, the teams are trying to balance their cars with the new Pirelli tyres and KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) and movable rear wings which have been reintroduced for the 2011 Formula 1 season.
However, Timo believes that the team’s new car has a lot of potential and according to the statistics of the pre-season test sessions; Virgin racing Team is currently a couple of tenths short of their rivals from 2010, Lotus.
“It shows us clearly that we need more downforce. That's what counts the most in Barcelona,” Glock said.
He stated that the new car was definitely more reliable and was much better than their 2010 Formula 1 car. The team still needs to work on its performance though.
“We are closer [to the pace] than we were, but we still need to make a bigger step with the speed,” said Timo Glock.
Virgin Racing Team will need to work very hard on its new car in the upcoming pre-season test session and since the 2011 Formula 1 season is expected to start from the 13th of March, it seems that they don’t have much time to do so.
