Virgin Racing Team driver Timo Glock claims HRT have taken giant step in improving their performance
Timo Glock of Virgin Racing Team has said that his team rivals Hispania Racing Team have decided to take a giant step in order to improve their performance for the rest of the season.
“Hispania have taken a giant step. I'm afraid that they will be in front of us here,” Glock told the media.
Virgin have been performing much better than HRT at most of the races of the 2011 Formula 1 season so far but since Vitantonio Liuzzi finished ahead of both of the Virgin Racing Team drivers, Glock believes that his team might suffer at the upcoming races.
HRT have been the only team this season who were unable to qualify at a couple of races in the beginning of the season as well while Virgin’s pace was much faster than them comparatively.
At the Canadian Grand Prix on the other hand, Tonio Liuzzi scored much better results than both of the Virgin Racing Team drivers during the qualifying session which was a huge blow to the team.
However, judging a team’s overall performance after one race is not justified at all and at Valencia, Virgin Racing Team will have a major challenge ahead of them as they will now have some competition alongside them.
Glock stated that he sliced his finger this weekend which is going to be another problem for him and added that he would have to “adapt” his driving style until his finger recovers.
“I did it on Tuesday. It's a pretty deep cut - I thought I had cut it (the finger) off. I have to use the steering wheel slightly differently because I can't really bend it, and I will use the gear shift paddle with the three lower fingers,” Glock joked.
Before HRT’s Canadian performance, Virgin were pretty much in a world of their own as their pace was not faster than or as competitive as Team Lotus’ but quite faster than HRT’s.
